Athansius Schaefer: Etruscan Terra Cotta

Rome's first conquest was of itself. In 509 BC Rome expelled the Etruscans led by the last of its seven kings, Tarquin the Proud. The newly founded Republic and the later Empire would forever disavow the title King. This example of Etruscan funerary sculpture is found at the Vatican museum.
